Map a storage share

Map a storage share (e.g. resources) to a drive letter (e.g. R:\).

  1. Open File Explorer (yellow folder icon in taskbar)
  2. Right-click This PC in the left pane of the window
  3. On Windows 10 select Map network drive...


On Windows 11 select Show more options, then Map network drive...

  1. Choose any available drive letter
  2. In the Folder window, type \\ then click Browse
  3. Expand the list under “storage” by clicking on the arrow to the left
  4. Click on the shared folder you want to map (labs, ous, projects, etc)
    1. You can also expand the shared folder to see further subfolders and map those directly
  5. After selecting the folder/subfolder you want click OK
  6. Click Finish
Quick connect
  1. Press the Windows key + r
  2. In the Popup "run" box, Type \\
  3. This will open a File Explorer window with the storage volumes (e.g. resources) listed


  1. Open Finder (left most icon in the dock or click on desktop)
  2. Click on Menu / Go / Connect to Server
  3. Server Address: cifs://
  4. If prompted, enter your credentials:
    1. Log in as a Registered User
    2. Name: username
    3. Password: network password
    4. Connect
  5. Select the volume that you want to mount (e.g. resources)

Files related to grant information

SRSs, grant managers, and heads of departments have access to their respective folder


Files directly relating to committees

Members of a committee have access to the appropriate committee folders

core facilities

Storage for core facilities

Members of a core facility have access to that facility's folder


Financial reports

SRSs, directors, and heads of departments have access to their respective folder


Backups, building management



Job applications are stored in this directory.

Hiring manager, HR


Storage for labs

Members of the lab


(operating units) departments such as HR, IT, Finance, Post-docs, and Communications can store data here

Members of the department (operating unit)


Project-specific data/files. This provides a place to share files among labs, core facilities, and operating units.

Each SRS has a subdirectory here. Proposals, including budgets, are submitted here.



Information that is relevant to all employees (e.g. employee handbook, safety documents, forms)

Everyone can read/view. Contributions are restricted to the owner of the folder.
