Using Yubico Security Keys with your Google account

Updated

This article is intended for those who have been issued a Yubico Security Key as a means for protecting access to your Google account. Hardware security keys are one of the best ways to protecting your sensitive accounts and contained information from phishing attacks. They prevent unauthorized access to your accounts without having access to the actual physical token associated with your account.

You won’t be required to use the security key every time you access your account, only the first time you access your account on a particular device, or if you’ve been logged out of your account on a device.

Your security key will also work to access your account on your smartphone. Simply bring your security key in contact with your phone while touching the gold-colored circle on your key.

  3. Touch the gold-colored circle on your key
  4. That’s all!

*Near Field Communication (NFC) technology allows users to make secure transactions, exchange digital content, and connect electronic devices with a touch. NFC transmissions are short range (from a touch to a few centimeters) and require the devices to be in close proximity.
